One of the features of ProtoFax is sending email to fax machines. The ProtoFax Server software can retrieve or receive email via a network connection and deliver it directly to the destination fax machine through a fax modem connected to the computer. ProtoFax can either retrieve email from an existing email box, or you can create an email box on ProtoFax and receive email directly on the ProtoFax Server, without a need for an external mail server. Below is an example of configuring ProtoFax to check an existing email box and send its contents to a fax machine. The following example uses the ProtoFax POP engine. You can also use the ProtoFax SMTP receiver. Before proceeding, this is a summary of the information that you will need: POP User Name
POP account password
POP server address
Fax number
Objective: Check an email box and fax its contents. Open the ProtoFax Server
Administration.
ProtoFax will countdown, retrieve any email from the email box that you specified, and fax it to the fax number that you entered. Be sure that the mailbox that ProtoFax is checking has mail in it to fax! Cannot bind to port If you attempt to start the ProtoFax SMTP/Printer Driver service and receive the error: Cannot bind to port 25 in
the ProtoFax event log, this indicates that there is another application
listening to this port on this IP address. Change ProtoFax to a different
IP address or port number on the Services tab of the ProtoFax Server
Administration.
