SMTP
Server
Objective:
Send email directly to ProtoFax that it will then fax or send to an alphanumeric
pager. Also allow for two different types of email messages:
One addressed to a user such as alan@fax.provider.com
that will be faxed to the number defined for this user in the ProtoFax
userbase and the other addressed to faxnumber@fax.provider.com
which will be faxed to faxnumber.
Discussion:
The ProtoFax Server has a built in SMTP server that allows for multiple
configuration options and uses. ProtoFax will fax email that it receives
via SMTP to the fax number that you specify in a client's account in the
ProtoFax userbase. As an SMTP server, you can place ProtoFax into your
network in different configurations. It can accept mail directly from clients
or mail that is forwarded from other SMTP servers. The ProtoFax SMTP Server
can also be configured to allow the SENDER of the email message to
specify the number to which the message will be faxed. As an example, a
client would compose an email message such as:
To: 591-9217@fax.provider.com
From: alan@company.com
Subject: bigsecret
This is a sample message.
Notice that in the above
example, a password may be placed in the subject line of the message for
further access restriction. This message would get faxed to 591-9217 from
the ProtoFax Server fax.provider.com. Full access restrictions are built
into ProtoFax to assure that only clients with the appropriate privileges
can send faxes. In addition to this, for each client you may define what
'type' of numbers they may or may not send faxes to. For each client, ProtoFax
allows you to define the 'logic' that a client's fax number must obey in
order to be faxed. For example ProtoFax may allow one client to only fax
to 7 digit numbers. Or maybe you may only want to allow another client
to fax to any 7 digit number with the 591 prefix. Or maybe you want
to let a certain client fax to any number that they want. ProtoFax will
allow you to do all of this. |
